Uridine is a nucleotide base which can be found in high levels in beer. It’s used for increasing synthesis of cellular membranes and for cognitive enhancement. Synergistic with fish oil, it also stacks well with choline for improved cognition.
Naturally occuring in certain foods. As mentioned, it’s found in beer, but also in breast milk, some infant formulas, organ meat, cruciferous vegetables, yeast, mushrooms, parsley, chestnuts, broccoli, oats, Chinese cabbage, spinach, sugar cane, barley, cauliflower, and tomatoes contain uridine.
The chemical compound is found primarily in the nucleus of a cell. It’s one of 5 nucleosides that form nucleic acid. Nucleic acid is a critical part of Ribonucleic acid (RNA), which is fundamental to the cell structure of the nucleus.
Uridine is biosynthesized by the liver as Uridine monophosphate. Uridine monophosphate is secreted into the bloodstream. When in the bloodstream, it helps cell rejuvenation. It can also show in the bloodstream as uridine triphosphate or uridine 5 monophosphate. One of its primary functions is enhancing cognition and improving alertness.

How it works
It promotes new neuronal interconnections within the brain to supports cognition. It’s a mental stimulant that enhances brain activity and improves the ability to store and consolidate memories. It also affects mood. When someone is experiencing uridine deficits they may experience both short and long term memory loss and anxiety.
Acting as a neuroprotective, strengthening brain cells. It may help to prevent the onset of age related cognitive issues, such as dementia or Alzheimer’s.
It improves the dopamine levels within the brain. Which helps to improve motivation, focus and encourages the reward feedback cycle.

Stacks for improved cognition
- Uridine: Uridine Monophopshate taken once a day at 150-200mg or Triacetyluridine taken at 25-50mg/day.
- DHA (Fish Oil): 1-2 grams/day of a high quality, DHA-rich fish oil, with for a daily total of at least 700mg of DHA.
- Choline (Alpha-GPC): Start with 300mg of Alpha-GPC and very slowly increase dosage if needed (max 450mg day).
- B-Complex (Optional): B-Complex supplementation can be added as uridine slows the body’s supply of Vitamin B9 (folate) and Vitamin B12 (cobalamin).
